Are there any better alternatives to LM741 and AD712?

Any preferred versions to these?
Going to depend a bit what you're building, but you can get a few different versions of the 741 from various manufacturers, ua741, jrc741/njm741, depending on the circuit the TL071 can be used, but it has higher specs and may brighten up a pedal.
The AD712 you won't find a 1:1 copy, but for example the Zendrive is a pedal that came with the AD712, OPA2604, or NE5532 at various times, so any of those should be fine in a circuit like that. Often a TL072 would do the job just fine in place of the AD712 though and those are fairly ubiquitous.

A tl071 will drop right in for the 741. Really depends on the circuit how much difference this is going to make though. Could be better, could lose that flavor etc. could try it in the mean time

Huge thanks. I should have added these are going to be used for a Mahayana and Awful Waffle. I have not owned these pedals so I might not notice any additional brightness anyways.

The newer version of the crowther hotcake that the awful waffle is based on uses the tl071 anyways. I would highly recommend getting sockets for the op amps, not only does it remove any risk from damage from heat, it lets you try out op amps in the future. The awful waffle in particular changes its character a lot depending on the op amp because that is what is creating the clipping. In the mahayana circuit I think most people will not be able to tell a difference with most reasonably nice op amps (tl072, ne5532) and the higher end OPA and such due to the nature of it being lower gain and relying on the mosfets/diodes for its clipping.

I've been running the NE5532 in my Mayahana's but I doubt a TL072 would sound any different. LM1458 is another good choice.
I would not go out of my way to buy an OPA2134 for the Zen as some circuits would have you.

Where are you located? Are you in the US? If so, DM me your address, I can send you some opamps for these two builds.

I will also add that the Crowther HotCake kinda "needs" an LM741 or UA741 (imo) for that classic sound.
You don't want "too clean" an op amp.
As @swyse mentioned, in that circuit the Op-amp produces clipping and you kinda want a lo-fi op amp to make it gnarly.....

Edit: Gnarly in a cool, Kiwii-ish kinda way..... :p
