Blown CMOS

I’ve been meaning to share something with everyone.
A friend dropped off his Pigtronix Polysaturator for me to take a look at. He’s had it for many years, but recently he accidentally powered it with 18v. And it began to emit a bit of smoke. The CMOS was blown.
When I opened it up, I couldn’t read the code on the Chip. It looked as though a worm had crawled a path through it.
Anyway, T’was an easy fix.

Thank you for clarifying that. Yes I know it’s a CD4049UBE. I should’ve put in the story that I had just one left in my stash, that I had bought for a few other boards. I believe the Dirt Dauber uses one.
And the Ample Alpaca.

PS: I have a list of pedals that use the 4049UBE — it's long.

You noted in the OP "twas an easy fix", Kristopher, but I was wondering if your pal had got back the Polysaturator pedal — this story can't end on a cliffhanger! 😸

Haha. Yes he has his polysaturator back on his board. I swapped the chips and gave it back, after I played with it for a hour or so.
I like the EQ-ability of the pedal. Many fun settings.
My friend is a bass player, and he mentioned that in my next pcb order, that I should get a Polyhog pcb so I/we can mod it. He has used the polysaturator for years, and loves it, but is always interested in mods catered to Bass.
