I bought a few C2CE boards at once, and decided to build the Lab Rat first since it gets a lot of praise on forums. I went with a bare aluminum enclosure and laser etched my graphics onto the aluminum using metal marking spray made for lasers. The art work was generated using AI. I told it what I wanted and I couldn't have imagined the output any better. The term "Channel Rat" is a derogatory term we use where I am from for people who live in the next town over. Its a stereotype that people from that area are sketchy and undesirables. That's why this rat in the graphics looks like such a menace. I like the double meaning behind calling it "The Channel Rat" also.
About the sound of this particular take on the Rat circuit: I like many others, have fallen in love with this variant. Between the bass and treble tone stack, and what I perceive as more warmth and almost more Fuzz like qualities, this has found itself a spot on my board. I like Rat pedals in general, but none of my other rats have made it to my board in a while. This one makes it for sure. The bass and treble stack really allow you to adjust the EQ so it can be used with just about any pickup type or position. I sometimes feel like the Rat circuit lacks low end with single coil pickups, but the bass parameter on this pedal lets you bring some of those in, which is awesome. I am heaping more praise for this circuit onto of the already existing pile of praise!
