Latest (and greatest in my winter build series is the awesome Klon Centaur. Yes, I went through the parts list and accepted no substitutions so every component is the exact right value. Ok, I did lack a 390nF cap due to an oversight and so found two caps that when in parallel = 390nF so all good.
I decided to get the 'real deal' Ge diodes (1N34As) and stompboxparts.com delivered a pair that matches the spec precisely (0.28V @1mA, 0.35@5mA). So I'm glad I didn't cheap out with the BAT41s or try to get them from Amazon/ebay.
I also took the opportunity to use a pile of old/mojo electrolytic caps I was given a few months ago (yes I tested them all first).
I hadn't played a Klon before so I was very pleasantly surprised - def worth the effort this one takes. Sweet, warm tones and nice clipping even at low Gain. I see why this one is an essential build (but its not easy so do a few others first).
