Clean(ish) Preamp Recommendations

I'm currently using a Bogner Ecstasy Blue as a preamp in conjunction with an IR loader for direct recording. It's a great pedal, but it's big and has extra functions (like a boost) that I don't need. So I'm hoping to find a DIY option better suited to my situation.

I'm looking for something with full tone shaping capabilities (bass, middle, treble) that can do clean up to light crunch. I don't want squeaky clean. I don't want an overdrive. I want a preamp that will dirty up when pushed.

What would you guys recommend?

doesn't have full tone shaping but I'm really liking the Scenario Preamp. I have it set up to clean up nice with the guitar volume control

I like the Mofeta. Just keep the master up and nudge up the Normal and Brite knobs to taste. Takes being goosed with an overdrive nicely. It is a fairly scooped preamp though so it might not be good in every context, but it definitely can do more than just doom.

I find the Peavey Bandit transtube preamp unbeatable when it comes to SS "pedal platforms". No pcb for it (as far as I know) but not too complicated to do either. There is a nice simplified version of it here.

Thanks guys! You've given me a lot to look into. I like the idea of the Scenario and C2C, but I'm afraid they wouldn't offer enough tone shaping. The Mofeta looks like it could potentially be tamed with a few value changes. The Pevey Bandit, looks like something I could breadboard and test pretty easily.

I'll let you know what I come up with, I guess.

There is a PCB of the Peavey Bandit as a preamp, sold by Dunn Effects.

I've built one of those for a Finnish band that got tired bringing their Bandit amps on tour. They loved the pedal and ordered another one.

The c2ce Particle Accelerator probably my favorite clean Preamp so far, and has a TMB tone stack
