I've built a magnavibe. It's ok. It's not a magnatone either though. To me it's more an optical tremolo with shallow depth and a sine shaped waveform. If your expectations aren't for super authentic you might get by with it. Your best bet is a vb-2.

This is suppose to be as close as can be to the Magnatone Vibrato:
SurfyVibe with no less than 80 components, All SMD, It should!!!

I used a 5mm Red Diffused Super Bright 600mcd LED & 20K Light / 20M Dark LDR.
I used Black shrink tube to enclose the LED & LDR which are pointing at each other.

I just plugged mine in again as it took 1/2 an hour to find.
With Speed at minimum & Depth nearly maxed out I was chugging along to Lonnie Mack's ''Satisfy Suzie'' & it was pretty spot on!!!
I used this Layout & the only change I made was 1K8 was changed to 1K on Depth 3.
