It's time again to adorn the clown makeup, a comp hater built yet another comp. Thankfully it's awesome. I was resistant to building this until Robert got the chips in the store. I had seen a few folks mention it as being particularly nice on bass so I did a little digging around on talkbass. I was surprised to find some folk using it as their go to light drive sound. If you crank the comp and attack knobs it really does give a warm squashed unique od that sounds really nice through my rig. Not a friendly sophisticated overdrive, it's farty in a good way like the busted 15 inch speaker in my old Peavey combo amp. I definitely expected to be more underwhelmed by the dirty toans.
I played it at a rehearsal for a few hours today and it may have topped my Median build for my clean purposes. At low comp, low attack settings it's a tad quieter and I find the hi knob to be more subtle yet more useful than the tone control on the Median. 15 year old me would have never believed that I'd be this in to a compressor let alone the milk box. I had such an aversion to anything with stupid control names and now I have this downstream from a meatbox.
Brown sand powder coat from tayda reminded me of cafeteria chocolate milk.
