DC Jack Ground Issue

I'm just about done building my first few pedals, but all of them are having the same problem. When I put the DC jack in place, the pedal cuts out. However, if I pull the jack and reattach the power supply, it works perfectly? Do I have the wrong type of DC jack?

It'll work how it is in the attached picture, but as soon as the threads of the jack touch the housing, no signal.

Solution
Everything except pedals uses positive center, so this type of jack is fine most other places that aren't guitar pedals which, as I'm sure you are aware, are center negative connections.
You can thank Boss for that.
When you plug it, you power is shorted to the enclosure.
If you like the look of metal jacks, I have seen some that have an insulator but most metal jacks are not insulated.
Any type sold here will work.
