DC Jacks

Hi guys

The "standard" pedalpcb layout (as much as there is one with DIY effects) is to have the jacks and the DC socket on the top edge ("top jacks").

That said, I noticed that pretty much everybody (myself included) uses the thinline Lumberg style DC jacks that have no switching (so you can't use them with a battery).

I wanted to ask if this is because the bigger switched ones simply don't fit when using top jacks? Or is it just because we're all saving the environment and not using batteries?

Bonus question - if the bigger ones do fit, does anyone have a Tayda drill template that matches?

Are we talking about these (or the corresponding “innie” version)? If so, they still fit the standard PPCB top jack drill template – you just need to make the hole for the power jack about 13 mm. But you don’t need to move the input and output jack at all – everything still fits, even if you are using open frame jacks for the input and output.

They’ll fit, I never have anyone ask for them as they don’t use batteries at all in their boards.

The switched power jacks are right at 13mm or 1/2”, so add a bit more for play and powder coating.

I sort of answered my own question this evening finishing off an Episode Boost - this is quite a long PCB and one of the switched jacks wouldn't fit without fouling given my current layout.

Just need to do even more preplanning in future...
