At home I have a dual tier 20" x 8" pedalboard but when I play out I like to bring a much smaller 14" x 5" board and bring just the basics - a couple overdrive pedals, and I use my amp's built in effects - reverb and tremolo. It's a Fender amp and it has one of these
which is a super annoying size and hangs off the edge of my board and gets in the way of everything. I've been wanting to remake it in a normal enclosure and today I finally got around to it, but with a twist - I also built my tuner into it.
I have a Rockstock mini tuner, which is about 2" square. I took off the bottom and got a look at it
It's packed in there and uses like 30 gauge wire. So I started blasting
Here's a look at the relay switching board. The rest of the board is under the display, on the top
I'm lengthening some of the wire here and reinforcing it with hot glue
I spent so much time trying to get this thing back together after taking it apart to see how it worked. The way the switch actuates requires at least one of the jacks in place to lock the thing together
Here I have it mounted in the enclosure and I'm beginning to put it together. This was one of those builds where everything is mega tight and there is a specific order of assembly which I had to work out
I'm setting up the LED for the reverb here
The right (left?) side of the switch is done. I had to mount the feetsweetch super low so they wouldn't be in the way of the tuner switch, which meant I had to trim the lugs so they would clear the back cover
It's finally coming together. The jacks on the left side as we are looking at it in the pic are the in/out for the tuner, and the jack on the right is for the amp effects. I have to make up a stereo cable with a right angle fitting for that one. After this I made up the other LED and put a massive blob of hot glue on the back of the tuner to sandwich it against the back cover. I also gooped the switches for good measure
And here we are! Blue is reverb and red is tremolo. It's easier to actuate the tuner switch than I thought. I was afraid the other switches would be in the way.
I may make another at some point. There was room to put all the jacks on the sides, but I tried it this way first. I would have liked to use a bicolor LED, but there wasn't room for a jewel and I don't have any other LED bezels. I used a huge step bit to drill the hole for the tuner and it was a trip - I had to go real slow for the last couple steps. I would love to make one of these out of a Polytune Mini but they're all sold out everywhere.
