Managed to finish up this guy over the 3-day weekend.
It’s an Aion Torus (Mid-Fi Demo Tape Fuzz clone) PCB.
Pretty simple straightforward build. No real issues. Used a 1590BB, just to give myself a little more space for artwork. And I changed the controls layout a little, so I had to wire everything off board.
It features the venerable White-Tailed Kite. I saw one for first time last year, at Garner State Park here in TX. True to form, he was hovering over an open field…

Guess this is the first Aion PCB I’ve built?
I don’t have real strong feelings on the PCB component labeling (i.e. “R1” vs “100k”), though I do wish the build docs had an image of the board layout with schematic designators and component values both. Or 2 separate diagrams even. That would be handy.
This thing sounds good. Pretty wide range from boosted to blown out when you crank the Gain. Bass and Treble give you some pretty audible frequency variations. And it seems like it can get pretty fuzzy without turning into a big wall of sludge/mush.
Dunno, I’m not really a ‘toan wordz’ guy (“it has a bold transparent feel, with a light oaky finish”) but I dig it so far.
My neighbor gifted me a not-entirely-functional Tascam Porta-02 a while ago. If I can get it working at some point, it can shoot it out with this thing!
