The original was a Christmas gift decades ago, and was a mainstay on my (at the time) BCB-6 all Boss pedalboard for the high end of my gain stack. When I saw this, it sparked my curiosity about how close it comes to the original.
I was really surprised how accurately it brings the tones of the original PW-2. The controls are really responsive and the gain is smooth and compressed. The upper end of the drive gets a little flubby but it seems that’s part of the overall function. It’s a really nice circuit.
This is my first Dirt monger effort, and I’m pleasantly surprised. My only substitute from the specified values is a 5V6 zener opposed to the noted 5V3 zener which I had trouble locating. The bypass buffer board is a little close to the main board as per the drill template, and comes in contact with the top of a 220u and a 100u electrolytic, so I recommend either using low profile caps or drilling for the pots higher than the drill template indicates to allow a little more space between the main board and the bypass buffer board. Minor stuff there, but hopefully is a help to anyone pursuing this build.
Dirt Monger was really generous with my order and sent a complementary “guitar pick” fuzz board and a few nice stickers. All the way from Canada, delivery was surprisingly quick.
