Electrovibe Mini sourcing parts

I’ve acquired 2n5088s for an Electrovibe Mini I’m going to build. I noticed that most measure around 718 HFE but some are above 800, some are around 616 and one is 477. This was with a cheap measuring device.

Does the HFE and leakage matter in this circuit?

EDIT: Measured them again with my DCA55 and most are in the range between 550 and 630 HFE. Only 2 are lower around 450 which I’ll replace with some new ones I’ve ordered.

I’ve read that some have reported that higher gain from the 2n5088 can cause distortion or in worst case even oscillation.
Higher gain is not always the problem, could also be caused by build errors (on Vero).
I was merely looking at how consistent the 2n5088 are, the 450 HFE ones could work for the last Q which is a buffer afaik?
