Favorite band to see live in concert?

Rush, Priest, Maiden, Cates Warning, Janes Addiction and SRV in the 80s. AIC, Dream Theater and Rush in the 90s. Since then, probably, Riverside and Katatonia. I know I'm missing a band or two. Lots of other good shows like Kansas, BOC, Van Halen, Dio, etc.

Such an interesting question. I've seen Rush at least a half a dozen times -- never disappointed. My first concert was Foghat. I've seen Aerosmith, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar). I've seen the Stones, Bruce Springstein, Elton John, Billy Joel, Robert Plant, George Harrison, Ozzy Osborne, Grateful Dead, Jackson Browne, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, David Gray, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Alice in Chains, Ronnie James Dio, Tool, Fabulous Thunderbirds, BB King, Robert Cray, Rufus Thomas, and God knows how many others, but the most memorable was (believe it or not) the Bare Naked Ladies -- awesome show.

Nobody here cares about Murray Parahia or the Janáĉek Quartet but I saw Tom Petty during the Wildflowers era. Did not suck.

The Claudia Quintet has melted my face clean off twice.

On the other side of that coin, I got free tickets to see RHCP in 1999. Top 10 worst shows I ever attended. The Wooten Brothers get a special mention for playing too many g@>$%#n notes. Could've seen less wanking had I gone to the xxx theater instead.

Edit: just realized I already answered this when it first appeared. Still a John Hollenbeck fan I guess, lol.

Perhaia is great, what did he play?

Oof, it was in like 2007-8. I wish I could remember. I recall disappointment that he didn't play any Chopin etudes (one of my favorites of his recordings). There was a Mendelssohn piece that was new to me, in fact it seemed like mostly deeper cuts. No Goldberg Variations or anything. I tried to look it up but didn't find anything.

I'm a big jam bang guy and have toured with a ton of bands. But after seeing Tool for the 1st time last year, I will never miss a show they play within driving distance.

Too much traveling and pretty heavy partying took it's toll, so now I stay local and prefer to see shows with my Dad. He and I buy each other tickets and most bands aren't off limits, although we stick to mostly rock. Saw Tesla with him a few months ago and that was another incredible show. Being a guitar nut, like most of us, their lead guitar player blew me away, especially at his age.

Traveling to Vegas for Dead and Co at the Sphere. That will be my show highlight for the year for sure!

I went and saw the Julian Lage trio a few weeks back, and I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that it was a spiritual experience for me. I teared up at one point just from watching him play.

The guy is just on another level, it's absolutely unreal. I've never seen a guitarist who is that talented and in tune with his craft and instrument, it was like the guitar was an extension of himself. I'm generally not much of a jazz guy, but I was awestruck by him and his band for the duration of their set. If y'all ever get the chance to see him play, absolutely do so.

This. I 1000% agree. I’ve seen Julian a few times and he never disappoints. Really amazing musicianship.

I woulda killed to see Dio. I didn't realize what a waste of time Vivian Campbell is in Def Leppard. He has to put up with that nimrod playing as many notes as he can with the gain on 10. Brutal. I hope they're paying him well.

Probably the best show I've seen lately is War on Drugs. Totally different than their recorded stuff and was blown away with the lights. On one beer.

I have to say, The Armed is a "highly recommend" if you're into the style.
There was this one guy, 6-10 or so who stood directly in front of me halfway through the first song.
Halfway through the second song his forehead was split open via flying road cone. Thanks guy.
5/5
