There’s been a lot of talk about this circuit around here lately. I think for good reason- it sounds great.
I have a concept for a compact pedalboard, and I started buying some 1590Bs and looking at PCBs that would fit. There was speculation about whether the Spirit Box could fit. It sounded like a fun challenge.
There were several things that had to happen to make it just barely fit. First I carefully sanded the sides of the board. I would check frequently to make sure I wasn’t going to hit a trace.
Next I learned that even with it sanded, it doesn’t fit in a typical 1590B. Stomp Box Parts sells enclosures with thinner walls. This gave me another whole mm to work with, which was essential.
I had to bend the pins on the belton brick so it sat as flat as possible. I also had to bend the pot legs. This created a contact between the dwell pot and the belton pins, so an insulator was needed.
After all that, it fit!
I did the fuzzdog mods (I might replace this text with a link later). At first there was a lot of hiss. Then I remembered “oh, could be the pt2399”. Sure enough, I swapped it and it was much quieter.
For the art I drew some ghost notes with paint pens.
