Fornicus Overdrive - the crackler

I noticed the kit popping up at musikding a few weeks ago so I had to buy it with all the hype that is surrounding this pedal (PedalPCB driven hype right, RIGHT?).
It is an easy project which doesn't need a lot of thinking.
"What's not to like?"
Footprints for smt jfets -> *good* (musikding delivered THT!)
Placement for pots , switches and leds -> *good*
125B format -> *good*
Outlines for none existing resistors to confuse at first sight -> *good*
Crackling chaotic noise that makes you think of a short circuit -> *good*

I like the gain structure. The Hi-Cut could have been an EQ but maybe I can't appreciate minimal art. More is usually more.
As a little experiment I used the EQs of my GCI TTTSNB with the Fornicus and I was blown away. The video "GCI Baracus Fuzz and Decker EQ" on YT underlines the necessity of an EQ :)
Crackle/Sag should be always on with the trim pot fully CW (imho) as already mentioned here https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/fornicus-overdrive.21066/
It should be always on with Weight on soft which gives a little "more" (hard to explain)... With Drive not fully maxed to really hear the crackle. So it would be cooler to have Weight foot switchable. Maybe I will just do that.
Threshold on the other hand shouldn't bee full CW in general as explained here https://www.smallsoundbigsound.com/wp-content/uploads/fuckOD1.pdf
After all the big words I have to say that I'm a little, little bit dissapointed though with all the hype. Maybe it's best to build a crackle pedal and combine it with other drives/fuzzes. Nevertheless a fun build.

First in a messed up 3D printed enclosure then with new faceplate. The foot switch was soldered by a drunk monkey and can stay like this for now but I want to use a aluminum enclosure later. Some copper shielding tape could be nice.

Edit: sorry if someone already glanced over it, I used the edit function multiple times...

Nice looking build! That enclosure is super interesting, did you print it yourself?

And I'd have to agree with you on the teeny tiny disappointment around the pedal. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great sounding drive and has some cool quirks to it, but I also am glad I have not spent $500 trying to buy the real thing. Pairing it with something else, or using it in a more shoegaze-y specific kind of context seems to be where it would shine the most.

Thanks! I use this as a template and modify it in Blender (add holes, fonts etc) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4779416
It would be a quick and dirty method but I'm a Blender rooky and it costs me a lot of time to modify the enclosure. Add copper tape and the day is over :) It's faster to drill an alluminum enclosure.
