GL5516

Any feel for status of receiving any GL5516's? Tried some "or equal" from Tayda and they didn't work out as expected.

Chuck, you and I corresponded over my first build. The LDR's seemed to be working OK, but I was also wondering about the mcd rating of the LED's not being high enough as there was a range of recommendations when I posed the question to the forum. In trying replacing them with ones with slightly higher mcd I managed to damage the pcb so I'm going to do a second build. I figured I'd play it safe and go with a "real" GL5516 from PPCB, in large measure because I could piggyback them on the pdb order rather than paying $8 for shipping $1 of parts from an alternate supplier. I'm not in a big hurry, but I thought surely they would arrive by now.

Have you tried testing them?

Remind me, was this about a General Tso? I have yet to breadboard or build a pedal that had a problem with the LED not being bright enough. LDRs are very sensitive and even a tiny amount of light will make them do what they need to do.

Yes, General Tso and his minions! And yes I got square on your advice, but the tinkerer in me had the LED's @ 40 mcd rather than the prevous @ 30 so I thought WTF, not going to learn anything without a little experimentation. . . wound up sizzling the pcb. I just wanted to pick up the LDR's when I could order the pcb and save a few bucks on shipping as it chafes me to have to buy one's and two's of parts and pay 5 x's that much for shipping.
