After the Abacus (build report forthcoming), I wanted to build something ultra-simple, so rummaged through my old boards from GPCB and found the US Fuzz Pro. Three MPSA18s, a handful each of caps and resistors, and not much else TBH. It goes from loud to stun and is basically raw and crass. Subtlety is certainly not its long suit. And it hums like an MF to boot.
I believe (open to correction as ever) that it was one of Erik Brann's favourites (see below) as the official Fuzzrite.
So, it had to be christened as above. Very tongue-in-cheek reference to Hollywood's version of a South African accent, in case you're wondering.
A Boston, Massachusetts, native and a violinist, Erik Brann (also Braunn, born Rick Davis) was accepted as a child into the prodigy program at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, but was soon lured away to become a rock guitarist, joining first Paper Fortress, then Iron Butterfly at 17. He played with Ron Bushy, Lee Dorman and Doug Ingle from late 1967 to December 1969. The first album from this lineup, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, sold over 30 million copies, was awarded the first platinum award and stayed on the Billboard magazine charts for nearly three years. With arrangement assistance from Dorman, Brann wrote the song "Termination," which was featured on the album. Sad to see he died at 52 in the early 2000s.
S & D & RnR, one presumes.
