Grab Bag Fail

So, I saw VVCO pedals (AKA Sizzorfite on tagboard effects) was selling lots of PCBs for dirt cheap with profits going to a family in need. So, I said, why not?

Well, I got my pile today and the values are not on the PCB. Contacted them and pretty much told me to just reference tagboard effects web site. I mean, I guess that is doable. But it's not like the names match up. For example, there is this Arrogant Bastard Fuzz. You got me with the name, but WTF, is it?

Really, it's on me for not asking these questions before hand. So, it is what it is. Still more work than I'm willing to do.

But at the very least, would anyone know what the Arrogant Bastard Fuzz may be? Possibly by looking at it?

Also just to clarify real quick, sizzorfite is not VVCO, but rather their business partner Steve Shepard, who tragically passed away two months ago. These grab bags are to help Steve’s family out.
I’m guessing the reason we don’t have BOMs for these PCBs, is because Steve is the one who would have had access to that, and now’s not really the time to be prying his family to see if they can find the schematics on his computer.

Maybe if a few of us have ordered grab bags we can compare what we got and try to cross reference things to figure out what circuits are what

Good call. Even if nothing comes of the PCBs I'm happy to help the family.

And I agree, we should be able to figure these boards out.

Wait
8 BJTs has to be a fuzz war v1?¿
is it 8 bjts though? Look at the footprints of Q8- makes me think it may meant to distinguish it as maybe a FET or something. also given the position of q1, I think it may be either a regulator or a MOSFET for reverse polarity protection. that said, tracing the board to get a circuit topography is probably the only way for us to figure out what it's based on, and I don't feel like doing that from pictures. Maybe if one ends up in my grab bag too, I'll take a meter to it and map it out.

I thought about that but no spots for Ge diodes. But still could be some version of it without clipping diodes.

Fuzz war 1 is actually 7 BJTs and supposedly one set of diodes don't actually clip so I'm going modded Fuzz War v1 with Asym single mosfet clipping at Q8 ala AMZ

Final Answer Regis.
Edit, easy enough to test the Q8 theory with a DMM.

I don't think so, and there's no need to test. looking at the traces, top leg of q8 connects to r6. middle leg connects to r7. bottom leg connects to r13. none are grounded.

Just got mine. 45 pcbs. The post said 60+, but it’s still a good deal and for a good cause. I’ll get a spreadsheet up of what mine included after I have dinner. Some easily identified stuff and some that I’ll definitely have to do some digging to figure out

Cool. Thanks dude. I started diving in. Found a couple interesting ones I've not heard before. Most are not 1-1 with my sources for layouts and schematics so I'm doing a bit of tracing to get the values referenced properly.

I just got through the first 25 circuits. Here are my clip first impressions of those. 17 more boards to go, but I’ve gotta be up early to take my parents to the airport, so I’ll take a look at those with another time.

Most exciting to me is the Jen Phaser, followed by the B&M champion fuzz. Two circuits you really don’t see often.

I got pretty much the same ones. The Faustone Fuzz and the JEN are exactly the ones I was looking at too. I was looking at building that ruby amp so that is cool too. I'm working on some stuff now so I'll let you know what I come up with then we can compare notes.

Fwiw the deal is still available if you email VVCo (info on their Instagram). $19 shipped. I paid today and got a shipment notification.

I received several each of 13 different boards, and there's no way I will build up all of them. If anyone is interested in trading or just wants a few of these, just cover shipping.
