Helix 3.15: Ask and ye shall receive!

It's funny cause just today I was thinking about why there hasn't been any Helix updates in a while. I have two HX Stomps that form the core of my rig. I use a GigRig Wetter Box to control the mix between the two. One side is primary for bass and the other for guitar. Really makes for a super, stupid flexible rig that allows me to do some really crazy shit. Anyways...

Lately I've been thinking about various effects that I feel are kind of weak with the Helix. One of them is reverbs. They're pretty good in the Helix...but not great. Not Eventide great or Strymon great or the like. Really only has one solid "normal" reverb, the Dynamic Hall. The rest are more specialized for unique sounds. Any of the other more popular reverb types are found within the legacy effects...which are ok...but, again, not great. But I will say this...they're far better than pretty much any budget reverb pedal out there.

Ok, so then I see that Helix v3.15 hits and, man, it actually hits home with a few new bits. Three new reverbs: Dynamic Plate, Dynamic Room, and Shimmer. Four new delays that offer some pretty unique effects including one that injects reverb into the feedback loop. Along with that there's a new compressor, chorus, and a few legacy effects added.

So, three new reverbs. The Plate and Room do indeed sound really freaking good. The Shimmer is an interesting effect to play with. Strangely, no new Spring reverb...which one can hope will be added with the 3.2 update (which will hopefully come later this year).

This definitely pacifies my need for any new reverb pedal. I'll stick with what's in the HX Stomp for now and will explore some other options in my FV-1 dev pedal for kicks. Definitely looking forward to the new stereo FV-1 peda

They added the Hot Springs reverb along with Dynamic Hall in 3.1. We won't see a new spring for sometime if ever IMO.

Dynamic Plate and Room are new and welcomed additions. Forgot about Hot Springs, which is actually pretty good.

I'm looking forward to trying them all out. I updated my helix on Wednesday night but have some family staying with us at the minute so haven't had a chance to use them yet. Up until now the legacy plate has been my go to reverb so it will be interesting to see how the dynamic plate sounds next to it.
