I am a big fan of the death metal albums that use the Boss HM2. The "Swedish Death Metal" sound if you will. I'm also a fan of the Entombed. Who are some of pioneers of this sound. I found this group on Instagram that had a love for the HM2. And they were making a homage to the pedal and selling as "the Chainsaw". They also sell the PCB for it so I wanted to support the cause and bought one.
This my homage to one of my favorite bands built on the HM2 Cult Chainsaw PCB.
It's supposed to be a pretty exact clone and I think it really nails it. The layout was ok. It's not a PPCB board but it gets the job done. Made it to the BOM except it calls for RC4558 chips but I only had TL072s.
There was a 1.5uF electrolytic cap that was on the BOM but I didn't have one. So, I thought, bah, I'll just use a 1u. Well, I learned that it did make a difference. Just didn't sound quite there when maxed. So i put in the 1u5 and it's buzzing away. That's why the one cap looks a bit wonky.
It's a solid PCB. Fun build. And feels good to support fellow HM2 fans.
