Based on this thread I recently picked up some 99% IPA with spray bottle and it's awesome. I've been taking my boards (pre-pots-n-switches) over to the utility sink and spray the bottom a few times, scrub with toothbrush, spray the toothbrush and shake it out, repeat a couple times. In general it seems to work really well, at least for removing the rosin residue from the kester no-clean solder I use (44). MASSIVE difference from the 70% IPA I was using before. Even the toothbrush is clean and residue-free afterward (@Bricksnbeatles it's a an old oral-b if that helps your quest
).
I try to hold the board semi-upside-down to keep drips off the component side. If any drips cross the threshold I just wipe it away with some IPA and a q-tip or whatever. Would love to try the "shallow bath" approach as well some day, but the spray method is certainly efficient in terms of IPA consumed.
Not sure it makes a functional difference for no-clean solder, but damn it makes inspecting / troubleshooting so much easier.
