Impressed with The Dane

I recently got a Strat and have been testing it with loads of different ODs. One I keep coming back to is The Dane. I really like it with the Strat because it's one of the few ODs which really gets that vocal midrange thing happening with this guitar. So I have modded one specifically for my Strat - I simply made a cap bigger for a little more low end (I hope I picked the right one!) and added a little cap on the output of the booster to lessen the brightness. I used a 2n2 cap across the 51K on the output and it seems to have taken off enough high end for me.

It's a really useful OD with my Tele and now Strat. The OD section is YAT - yet another Timmy, but again, a very well voiced one. The boost works with it beautifully.

And because I have modded it to sound a bit bigger (Not sure it does sound that much bigger... but anyway..) I felt I had to modify the name too, just a bit. So of course now it's The Great Dane. I had to.

The Dane is one of the few ODs left that I still want to build. I really do need to order a few boards so I can get some building done.

Funny how all of the good ODs I've built lately are Timmy variants. I have no problem with that - if you can tune an existing circuit to sound good or better in a particular scenario then do it! I always found the original Timmy a bit bland.

I always preferred the Tim to the timmy tbh. I found it less fizzy.

Yeah I went through that education last year! A friend had an early Tim and swore it sounded better than Timmy. He was right, even though the differences are very slight.

My two favourite "Tim/Timmys" right now are the Dane and the TSV-808. But then I've modded the crap out of the TSV-808 now! It's become the Timbre Man.

I've played a real Dane and liked it so do want to build one of my own. I've never played a TSV-808 and tbh I'm not sure I even know what that is (I'll have to Google it).

The other Timmy I really liked though really didn't want to is the Jan Ray. I built one using Coda effects board and I really really liked it. I'm shallow enough to admit that having the pots the 'right' way round does make me happy.

So do you think that the Cornerstone Gladio SC with the clean blend is likely a modded Timmy as well? And the Crazy Tube circuits Unobtanium SSS and ODS might also be incarnations of a Timmy?
