Kliche Mods/Socket Recommendations

Hello,

I posted over in “Modifications” but didn’t seem to get much traction.

Have a fresh Kliche board and wanted to get an idea of which components (resistors/caps) you all would recommend socketing for adjusting different tonal characteristics.

I’ve seen a few adjustments mentioned with the “more bass” mod, more treble gain - but the other resources I’ve checked are for the Klon itself.

I’m still pretty green when it comes to comparing schematics, just curious what you’d recommend in addition to socketing diodes (which seems subjective to most)

Ideally I’d like to adjust gain capabilities.

Appreciate it!

A Klon is known more for it's EQ characteristics than it's gain settings. Like, if you make a tubescreamer with a mid scoop it's not a TS anymore. Once you start veering away from a stock Klon you'll be walking a gray line. My advice is to see if you like a stock Klon first before going down the mod road. A Timmy may be more your style from a low gain/EQ shaping perspective. Plus, it's a bit easier to read the schematic for most people and mods are a bit more obvious.

There are various circuit analyses about Klons out there that may help you go down the mod road.

Good call!

I’ll check it out. Appreciate the advice

If you really want to get into modifications and find out "what component does what" I would suggest breadboarding an OD along with doing some research on opamps (inverting vs non-inverting) and tone controls. Breadboarding seems intimidating until you do it once successfully. There are tons of threads here that cover both areas such as a Lightspeed OD breadboard tutorial I posted below. The area in the schematic where you can sub component values for tone control, gain stage, and corner frequency (EQ) are circled below as well.
