Here's the L5 clean preamp from Kevin.
Fairly simple build with a medium number of parts, easiest done by keeping track and ticking each one off as one goes along.
I decided to use a toggle instead of a footswitch, on the principle of 'always on' rather than switchable in a live setting. Also, considering the complications of twisting the control board around. So, it operates in the down position but that's ok, I think.
Interesting circuit. According to the BD, it was based on the Twin Reverb, so it does sound 'Fender-ish.' The compression control is quite strange (as others have noted) but provides the requisite amount of squish CCW, opening up the signal as one travels CW. Passive tone controls, so can get quite bassy in a Fender-ish way. Plenty of gain and overdrive to taste. I need to calibrate it more thoroughly, but so far so good.
Thanks for reading as ever and happy building.
