Marigold : Q3 C = 2.2v w/no zener, 1v w/4.3v zener???

Hey,

built a working Marigold, but this zener biassing thing is doing my head in,

with no zener I get 2.2v @ Q3 collector, a 4.3v zener gives 1v, a 5.1v zener gives 1.5v

Am using an AC127 for Q3, and a1N34a for D1

Do you need the zener if I'm getting close to 2.6v @Q3??

I have made several pedals, but not intelligent enough to answer your question well. I do think that there is an issue with your pedal and I would keep looking for a source. I measured by Q3 values and I used the stock Zener diode recommended. My values are noted below. I used an OC140 for the transistor. Hopefully, one of the guru’s can provide some helpful hints. You might want to take pictures of your board.
