I am trying out Microscale liquids.
After printing decal paper on Inkjet I put coats of varnish on to set the colors and prevent them from dissolving later on in the process.
I go over horizontally in 3 lines to cover the sheet, then vertically 4-5 times. Then let it rest for 2 mins. Then repeat. Let it dry until next day.
Then again the same process with 2 sprayings that each constitute 2 covering directions. In theory each point gets about 4 thin single-spray-layers.
Once dried at least 24 hrs I cleaned the surface with Isopropanol and dried it off.
Then I applied Micro Set (blue bottle, MS-1) while soaking the decal. The Micro Set just remained in drops and did not really float out over the surface any.
Put decal on and fixated it and gently got some of the liquid away.
I noticed that the decal stuck a bit quicker to the surface and where I had held it in place with gentle fingertips it stuck even faster.
I let it all dry a bit (1-2 hrs) before applying Micro Sol (red bottle, MS-2).
Tried to google how long to wait between. Seems "right away" is not pushed for. Rather wait for it to dry a bit all the way to fully dry, but no consistent advice IMHO.
Again the liquid contracts into drops or puddles or pools.
I will now leave it to dry fully.
Is the liquid supposed to clutter up in puddles/drops?
Are my 4 varnish sprays too many and makes the paper too thick with varnish so the Micro Sol cannot go through?
I have tried with a bit less varnish, but easily end up with too little so the paint is lost in the soaking bath.
It felt as if Micro Set (MS-1) did its job although in patches. No real issue, but perhaps not crucial for my decals.
Micro Sol remains to see if some magic happens after drying. I see no wrinkles (more than there was before) during application as others have mentioned.
Perhaps the whole process is much more delicate and need to be precise in timings etc. than I allow it to be?
