In my Spirit Box build report, I mentioned starting a collection of 1590Bs for a compact pedalboard. Here’s a couple of fuzzes.
I knew I wanted to build the Desolate about two seconds into a demo of it. I love dirt pedals that have some frequency variation based on input level. It’s not Bronx Cheer level, but it’s very cool. The treble switch in the down position doesn’t seem like a useful sound. It’s too much of a cut. Maybe it sounds good on bass. If you like demos of it, go for it.
The Persica fuzz was not initially on my Radar. Someone mentioned it was their favorite fuzz, so I took note. After a disaster where I soldered switches to the wrong side of a PCB, I wanted a quick win. Mission accomplished. This thing has huge range, and it all sounds good. This fuzz has an attribute that I don’t have a good name for. When you play major 3rds on it, the notes “smear” and all the harmonics seem to line up. As opposed to some fuzzes where major 3rds clash and are heterodyning all over the place. Again, if you like the demos, check this out. It’s an easy build.
