I obviously felt compelled to build this one. I have no idea what's supposed to sound like, except that if I had to design this I would make it marshally and humbucker-friendly.
This build sounds really dark, like, REALLY dark. I first asked my local guitar jedi master for help testing it. We used it with a strato through a Mesa/Boogie .50 Caliber EL84 for honks and giggles and it was like taking a stroll through mud city. Tone and Tea had to be completely open.
Trying the pedal with a les paul + twin reverb yielded better results but it still needed a hefty dose of highs and tea.
In my newbieness I struggle to understand the utility of the tea control and how it works. This somehow reminds me of the Distortion+ I previously put together, particularly when Feral Feline introduced me to the concept of "revolving objects that change the frequency response of the opamp".
I can't shake the feeling that the designer just needed an extra control to fit the theme of the pedal and went with this.
All in all, the real value of the original pedal consists in being official merchandise for a popular TV show sold in limited quantities, as per custom. These things sell for over 1000$ nowadays (at least it's not a Dragon Ball Z collectible, it would be over 9000$ in that case). For this reasons I went all out with the graphics, knowing full well that a pedal like this is designed to sit on a shelf looking pretty.
The color scheme is goldtop + cream pickguard since a sunburst pedal is something too hideous to imagine. The japanese writing on the left is simply "Genmaicha".
Either I fucked up building this one and it came out this way or it's dark by design. I suppose I should go back and try to fix it or just turn it back into a Distortion+ with just two knobs.
