Build report #2 for today.

I bought this PCB from @Robert during one of my shopping sprees then couldn't remember why I got it. hahah.

It sat in my pile of boards for over 2 years.

A few months ago I was looking at it and watched a few more demo's and decided to build it. I don't know why but I didn't have high hopes I would like it very much.

Dang, I could NOT have been more wrong!

The pedal is a collaboration between DOD and Shoe Pedals. I don't know much more about the backstory beyond that.
The circuit itself is probably the first really unique topology I've seen in a long time. It's not a YATS or a YATimmy or a YACrunchBox, et., al.

DOD claims it's a Class A discrete FET based circuit and the schematic backs this up. It uses a combination of BS170's with various hard clippers along the signal path. It's actually a pretty cool design.

When I first fired it up I was like "meh" until I started twiddling the controls. I was able to quickly dial up some KILLER low to medium gain sounds.
Its got the usual complement of level, gain, bass, trebles, but it also has a "filter" control which actually an input filter to fine tune the input impedance of your pickups and whether or not you're running a buffer before the pedal. It also has a pair of DIP switched to further tune the input impedance.
This is not the first pedal I've seen to do this but it's certainly one of the best implementations of this concept I've come across.
The input filter is the "magic" control once you've dialed in the amount of gain and overall EQ.

There's a Hi/Lo gain toggle and in the Hi gain mode it can get pretty raucous. But I think where it shines is as a "transparent" low gain drive. I like it so much that it's replaced the Jan Ray (which I just posted about) and my Greer Lightspeed (Mach 1) as my low gain drive.

This is a real sleeper pedal and a HIGHLY recommended build for a super versatile, unique circuit topology overdrive.

I"ll give this one another try, I remember I didnt like it stacked with the chopshop, my favorite OD. To be fair the Nein Fuzz is the only one that worked so far.

So it is the flank distortion and this one on your board Michael?

I'll have the pull out the Chop Shop and see how they stack. I'm not surprised if it didn't sound great. The Narcissus has a lot of trebles and a natural mid scoop. You have to push the mids knob a bit then dial out the inherent presence with the treble control and filter knob. The filter knob is also very interactive with the gain knob. In fact, all the controls are quite interactive. Not unlike the Chop Shop. I feel like I need 3 hands to dial that pedal in hahaha.

Well, I cleaned up my overdrive signal chain today because it was getting out of control. I had pedals all over my desk, not just clutter but they were all connected with power.... :p

Right now my current config for my daily noodling, (I would break it all down if I were recording)
After my 4 compressors, on the second shelf, I've got the:
CDXL RI
Modus Operandi boost
then my "amp pushers":
Sheepy GS808 (Vintage TS808)
Sheepy/GOTA SOD-1 (Vintage Boss OD-1)
Uber Drive (Boss SD-1),
that feeds into the next shelf down which are the "standalone overdrives" starting with the
Narcisuss
Vemuram TSV808 (DANAE)
Proletarian OD (Boss OS-2)
Boss OD-3 (AionFX Heliodor)
Boss SD-2 Lead Channel (AionFx Tachyon)
Flank Distortion (Bombastortion)
Nucleus Overdrive (XTS Atomic OD)

Oh and on the actual floor pedal rack I have a GOTA/Clyde Wah (built from the ShamWah board), a Sheepy Fattie (Demeter Fat boost) and a Ditto looper.

That part of the config will stay that way for weeks or months more like. That then feeds to whatever I happen to be testing, futzing around, verifying, or building currently, which another 4 or 5 pedals on the desk in front of me.

So that was long winded version of the answer to your question. Yes:) But with a little context.

Excellent! Demanding a demo as usual...!
I have to get my one out and give it another spin.
I think Michael landau has the DOD Looking Glass on his board on his board.
