NGD: Black Friday Haul #1 - PRS

Oh forgot to mention, the stock toggle switch was already starting act up. Typical Korean fare as in the SE and S2 line. This is the first I’ve had fail though, no, I take that back, the one on my Epiphone failed within a week or so, so that makes two. I must be hard on toggle switches. Anyway, i installed a Switchcraft toggle.

Looks stunning Michael, with PRS I alway think without a flame top it is lacking something, even if that flame is a veneer on the SE range, but that standard of yours has made me reconsider, I love the way it is unapologetic about being made of a spread of wood for the body, and I’ve often though the multi-piece neck might be more stable than a single piece of wood.

You mentioned going for the DTG look, I assume you’ve heard of the SE DGT that is coming out in Jan? Do you have a core DGT?

No, I have a Core 594 but I'm selling it. I'd love a DGT but not particularly into the jumbo frets. Yah I heard about the SE DGT model coming out. Looking forward to seeing what that looks like. If they make it in a Gold Top that might be pretty tempting:)

I'm kinda veering away from the flame tops and find myself drawn to the more plain woods. I have a couple of S2's, the Vela and Starla and both are plain mahogany as well.

Like what you're doing with your 245. I have the same guitar and plan on upgrading the pots and switch after the holidays. I have a set of Precious & Grace pickups from Tyson Tone I'm going to try. I thinking they'll be a good match.

Gold top with Moons and Tobacco Burst with birds apparently. Same neck carve as the Core model, and new SE versions of the DGT pickups.

I'm still floored by how good this guitar plays at this price point. I know the SE 245 has been around for a while but really an under-rated model in the line up.

Have you seen any pics yet? Ugh.....both of those sound really tempting......
My last post on the DGT in this thread as I don't want to derail it.

Here is a still from the promo video part one, and I think the only pic of the SE DGT.

Ok, the final element of the "makeover", PRS Amber lampshade knobs, just arrived from Amazon.

I like these knobs for their functionality, the faceted sides makes on the fly pinky adjustments a bit more predictable than the smooth Gibson style speed knobs, and of course I think they look pretty sharp too on a PRS.

Truss rod needed a slight tweak and I'm calling this project done. Very happy with how this guitar sounds and it plays ridiculously smooth. Didn't even touch the frets. The Wolfetone pickups are an outstanding value. I can highly recommend them. I like them better than the 58/15 LT's in my Core 594 and the Lollar Imperial Low Winds in my Eastman. More character, richer harmonics, better note separation under gain. Just a fantastic vintage output PAF style pickup.
