The first time my now 6 year old (he was 4 and knew all the words) asked Alexa to play uncle Remus by Frank Zappa, I teared up a little. He’s been hanging around with his cousins too much lately and found kidz bop. Sometimes he’ll still ask for some John prine though
 
I've been a big Elvis Costello fan for a long time. One of these days I'll go through my record collection and actually catalog everything of his that I have and share that here.

Anyways, I've always been in love with Riot Act. It is the final song on Get Happy!. Get Happy! is mostly two minute R&B and soul influenced pop songs (and are very good IMO), but there are a couple of outliers on it and those are the ones that have always fascinated me about that album.

Riot Act is the final song on Get Happy! and it is moody, dark, and nearly twice the length of the other songs on the album, which you expect from EC, but to me it's a bit more unsettling in the context of the album. Anyway, it's a great song from a really amazing album that you should listen to if you haven't yet.

Elvis Costello recorded this song after everyone else left the studio, apparently. There's almost no percussion at all and it's mostly the bass and his vocals. He plays all of the instruments on it as well, which kind of blows me away because the bass line on this song is just killer - one of my favorites with how the vocals and bass just seem to fit so well together.

I listened to it and I liked it. Then I saw your edit 🤣
 
I've posted songs from this album before, and I'm sure it's gonna end up being my most played album of this year on Spotify. Bobby's singing just absolutely crushes me. I like every song on this album. There are songs written by his brother Cecil, Charlie Rich, and Jim Ford, amongst others, and he sings one song with his dad too. I've listened to the album 3 times so far today and I'm sure I'll play it more

I haven't actually listened to it yet, to be honest.

I do appreciate that growing older has seemed to mellow Costello out quite a lot, though. He seems to be making the most of life and just doing whatever sounds fun to him in the moment which I really appreciate. He did that benefit show with Clover backing him which I thought was really cool.

I'll get around to Rusty one of these days.

I’ve only listened to one track from it so far, but I liked it. I definitely appreciate his current approach to things. I’d love to see his 10-night run at the Gramercy in NYC in February, but I can’t afford tix to even one night of the run, let alone all 10 (my god, the tickets are absurdly expensive!)
 
An old friend of mine on bass here. I'm curious what all the jazz guitar haters think of Dan Balmer's sound. He falls in more of the Scofield camp of chopped out legitemate jazzers who don't sound like mud and get freaky with the fx. And yes, it's a trio, Balmer is a semi permanent guest, lol.
