Mannnnn, I *really* productively struggled with this one. Tried implementing the mods in my old beloved o.g. deofol and ended up with questionable sound quality and an eventually non functional circuit. What was I going to do? Was I going to lay down and die? No.

I tried to do it on a new board. And the new one also wasn't sounding right either. Kind of mild and thinner than the original, without the straight fuzz at the end of rotation.

It took direct intervention by The Man Chuck D. Bones himself to set things to rights, and I learned a lot as usual--what makes j201 desirable, measuring JFETs, arranging JFETs, etc.

I also learned to not ONLY read and implement the comment discussion of mods, but also to ALWAYS scrutinize and compare THE DANG SCHEMATICS, because a lot of changes are undiscussed. And also that in assumptions lays the death of circuit function.

Here you can see most of the mods as I implemented them:

What I really effed up was the implementation of the body pot. I implemented all of the other mods, staggered the idss values and everything, but it was a "meh" circuit at best. Middle of the road MIAB. I was kind of bummed that my old unruly friend was just MIA. And the body pot was doing nothing.

Finally, I decided to eat my humble pie and climb JFET mountain to visit Mr. Bones, who very patiently offered this immortal sagacity: "jumper thine body switch pads three, then jumper legs of one and of two of the meter potentiate; only then may you be able to place it in the slot of R7. Hasten to join the obelisk of capacity 470n, and yea, verily will ye reap such succoring ambrosia of celestial harmonics."

So I did that.

Even though it was a struggle bus and a half, Chuck's mods take a pedal that at its base is super versatile and has very few bad settings in my initial build with random assembly of jfets (it was in my top 5) and the mods triple the versatility. With the body pot properly implemented, yep, there was my old unruly friend again. It sounds *effing great* across literally every combination of settings. High crystal headroom cleans to dark dank and dirty fuzz. It makes a good pedal interesting to explore.

This circuit made my week and so I'm very grateful for Chuck kindly and patiently sharing his work and knowledge with drummer plebs like me. And I also very much appreciate that I have constant gratitudes to make here to many people. Thanks, folks!

Highly highly recommended.

Just don't forget to read and cross reference all of the schematic.
