Robinson Nugent(acquired by 3M some 25 years ago) manufactured 8 and 10 pin TO99 sockets with lateral legs on the underside of the socket.
The socket itself is threaded (3/8 I think). Seems it might be cool to attack to a small piece of plexiglass, and also give some good starting structure for a point to point build.
These are long out of production but can be found at the universe's flea market.

RN also made several versions of extended DIP sockets that could seemingly have the same benefits, albeit not mountable with a nut.

Maybe this will help someone out or give some ideas. I don't have specific model numbers but I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Edit to add: the TO-99 pic I grabbed is panel mounted on the bottom, opposite the opamp. I think they all(to my limited searching) operate this way.
