Potentiometer question?

I need a B250K for the cleaver, I want to use one of the clear pots for LEDs from small bear. They only have them in 100K and 500K. Which would be a better substitute and what effect will it have on the sound?

This is the concept. I want to make the speed knob glow.

You could put a 470k resistor in parallel with the 500k pot and that would get you pretty close, depending on the actual resistance of the pot and the resistor taking tolerances into consideration. It might affect the taper, but the value would be close enough.
