Powering Intelligent Relay Bypass from 5v USB?

I want to power a PedalPCB Intelligent Relay Bypass from 5v USB power.

Since the module in its standard format does actually run at 5v, stepped down from the standard 9v input using a 78L05 voltage regulator, is there any reason why I can't (or shouldn't) run it directly from a USB power supply by simply omitting the voltage regulator and putting a wire link on the pcb across the voltage regulator's Vin and Vout pads?

Thanks

Nope, that will work.

You might need to jumper D1 and R1 as well... you'll already be running on a regulated 5V supply, you really can't afford any dropout across that diode...

You'll lose reverse polarity protection but that shouldn't be a concern with USB power.
