Mistakes were made. Scrounging happened. In the end, it all worked out.

This is a weird drive pedal if you get hung up on the word ‘crunch.’ I associate crunch with Marshall. This baby ain’t that, but it does light to mid break up really, really well. Push the drive too high and use the neck pickup on a strat and unflattering sounds happen (some of you will blame the strat and that’s fair). Neck P90 in a solidbody with the gain dimed is a woofy flubfest.

But, roll back that gain, cut some bass or flip over to the bridge or both and this is a damn fine overdrive. Middle on the gain, a little more treble than bass and it sounds really good to my ears. It also has sufficient output on tap to help break up an amp pretty nicely.

So then. Build per silkscreen - subbed a 1N4148 for the 1SS133. Easy going, fired up on the first try. I had some stupid issues on this build that were the result of cascading dumbfuckery by me. My attention is too choppy these days and it shows. Continuing the Tiny Shame theme from my Figbuster build, I sanded the enclosure and used a stencil with purple sharpie. B-stock Marshall knobs from LMS. I relented and used a metal washer for the 3pdt because I care about everybody’s wellbeing.

Anyway, if you want a different flavour (or flavor) of Boss overdrive, this is an interesting one and well worth the build.
