Pre-delay vs ducking

I *think* I'd appreciate a way to have played note ring true before effect kicks in, particularly with reverb, and possibly with delay. I've seen a couple DIY effects from thescientificguitarist that claim to utilize ducking explicitly to this effect. I assume pre-delay can be used to same/similar effect? What are the differences between the two in actual guitar pedal use and sound (ie which one works/sounds better with my intended use)?

For slaps or very short rooms, predelay does a good job of what you’re asking for. Ducking can unclutter things when using long decay times.

pre-delay (sometimes called attack) is a good option, it's why I like the eqd ghost echo so much (ppcb spirit box). Ducking is definitely useful depending how long you want that note to hang though, predelay is often pretty short and useful when you're running higher gain but want clarity

Is the pre-delay offered by arachnid FV-1 patches equally effective as spirit box?
Will pre-delay equipped FV-1 patches in general do what I want effectively?

I'd go check out the Spatialist. Touch reverb patch has a ducking control and a few of the other verbs have pre-delay.
