Preamp Pedal into effects loop and Gated Fuzz recommendations

Hey wasn't sure where to post this, just looking for some recommendations for some future builds.

First - wondering if anyone ever uses a preamp pedal to go straight into an amp's effects loop. I was thinking about building the Sansamp GT2 / Emu for that purpose. Wanted to check in to see if someone has tried that before, or if there were any others I should look at (M800 maybe?).

Second one I'm looking for is a gated fuzz with a bias control and mid range control. Or something in that realm.

the sansamp gt2 is noisy. I wouldn't do it. I have done other preamp pedals in this manner and they work pretty well.

Valhalla distortion (Diezel VH-4 pedal) works well that way if high gain is your cup of tea.

I run a Fuzzlord FET120 into the effects return of a JCM800 2203. It makes the Orange doom metal sound without me having to buy an Orange amp.

Hmm. Maybe I should buy an OR15 and run a M800 into its return.

If you have a serial effects loop it should work but if it’s a parallel effects loop that’s probably not going to work real great. I’ll have to second the Valhalla, if you like the Diezel sound.
