Questions about Effects Layouts

Open-ended is open-minded = good!

Schwarz is definitely a cool board/circuit.

C10 on the Schwarz was originally 6µ4 in the '71 version of the Coloursound unit, but I imagine the Schwarz's 4µ7 is plenty big enough?

Other notes I made on the Schwarz build doc:

Originals used BC109, BC169C, BC184C or BC184L, but also try:
BC108
BC109c
2N3417
2N3565
2N3904

Naturally mind the pinout.

I'm planning on modding the clipping switch on my Schwarz, instead of an ON-ON I'll use an ON-OFF-ON for a third option:

bat up = Stock Schwarz
bat middle = no diodes
bat down = whatever I wire to nearest gnd (GAIN 1, easy!) Probably LEDs...

Yep, very difficult to narrow it down, especially when you've not given us a clue about your proclivities — are you after mild dirt, fuzz, modulation? Do you use delay or reverb with your bass? Are you looking for a preamp with DI capabilities?

There's a number of cool utility builds you could do, too.

Some great suggestions already, but there's plenty more besides...

BARRANCA — YATS based on EQD's Palisades (minus boost); mod it for better bass response
BASSIFRASS — Frantone Bassweet
CHAOS BOLT — Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder (MUFF)
CITRUS PRESS — Orange Squeezer with a dry-blend
CRANKY SPEAKER — EQD Speaker Cranker which you can easy-peasy build a Southampton Fifth Gear on.
FEDERALIST — Dist+ & Muff
FOOTSWITCH DI2 — a utility build to add a DI to whatever other circuit you want to pair it with
HORDE-HOWLER — Fulltone Bass Drive
ILLITHID — Dunwich Cthulhu Si/Ge/MOS
INTER CONTINENTAL — EHX BMPOA
JOCELYN BELL — EHX Pulsar tremolo
KENTAURIDE — TS10 Tube Screamer and a silver Klon Centaur; there are good mods out there for bassifying the TS10, and Chuck D Bones excellent mods will make the Centaur positively bombasstic!
KOSSACK Козак (Cossack) — another Klone. Again, Chuck's Bass Mods turn any Klone into a bass blasteroid.
LAWN DARTS — EQD Arrows (nee Electra), swap out C1 for 1µ or 2µ2 as well as up to 470n for C3 and BOOM!
LIFESTYLE — fantastic phaser by CultureJam that can go super fast for in your face phasing/pseudo ring-mod or go super-slow for some subtle je ne c'est quoi flavours.
LILLIPUT — SmallSound/BigSound MINI — once upon a time a highly sought after circuit by the TB punters, can't wait to build mine.
MENHIR — another must-build, based on MountainKing's Megalith
PRISMATIC EQ — Boss GE-7B, but note there's a mistake in the build doc — C14 is NOT 3n9 for bass, rather it should be 5n6.
RED CLAY OD — dip your toes into SMD with this YATS, it has a bass-friendly clean blend.
RNGD — random noise generator meets delay by Janis.LV, great noisemaker. Check out JanisLV's youtube demos if you're into cacophonics.
SONORUS — a modded Blencowe Reverb using PT2399 chips instead of a Belton brick.
SUNNBEAM — a second Sunn to warm your tone, based on the Sunn Beta bass pre.
SUPER-TROUPER — build a SunnT on this one.
SWAGGER — EQD Plumes, but you'll want to build it to Blumes spec.
TAPE DELAY — Aleph Null's funky PT2399er; I was going to get this one, but you can just PM Aleph here on the forum and get one of his boards directly, like I did.
TEST RIG — quick test a circuit, but there are other similar devices here, MadBean, Fuzzdog, JMK... and more feature rich offerings elsewhere — highly recommend JMK's deluxe test-rig type PCB.
ULTRALECTRA — a feature-pimped Electra. Breadboard which Bass-mods you want first before soldering.

Buddy's suggestion for breadboarding a BazzFuss actually does apply to the ELS (Effects Layouts Storyboardist) offerings:
BOOTLEGGER is based on the Walrus Contraband, which in turn is based on the BazzFuss — it's a great circuit to toy with on the breadboard before committing it to solder on the ELS Bootlegger PCB.

Or build yourself a BAZZFUSS on an ELS FireBoltFuzz, based on the EQD Bellows, which is another BazzFuss variant.

DOD FX91 Bass Overdrive
I just did a deep dive on your list! I'm interested in several of these, but unfortunately about 1/3 of the ones you recommended can no longer be found on the website shop. I could only find them through the build documents page. I wonder what's going on with that? I'm really hoping I can find a Menhir and Super Trouper, which both appear to be discontinued?

Yeah, sorry bout that. I've not been keeping track of what's in stock. I have a few PCBs that I know are sold out, maybe to never be restocked?

You can still find all the build docs on the site.
Then contact Dave to let him know you're interested. I think if there's enough interest in an out-of-stock item he'll be more likely to get them again, as per what Jwin said. There's a couple circuits that I should pester Storyboardist about, but ... my current backlog...

PS: You can find the Menhir under different names from a few different suppliers — just get the Arkaim from Robert right here.

Barry at GuitarPCB has a SunnT-based circuit, but I don't know if it's quite like the ELS SuperTrouper, never compared them.

I think Brian had to shut down registration at one point due to Russian darkweb bots. @bean, are registrations still closed?

You could try messaging storyboardist on IG too.

It was getting out of control. But, I can implement some additional registration security measures to lock that down. I'll take a look at that ASAP.

The forum itself needs to migrate to something other than smf. I think Xenforo is the next logical step.
