I wanted to try out this original circuit. When I was brainstorming design aesthetics for the enclosure what came to mind was a storybook yellow rain coat, and the knobs are blue rain drops.
And the gut shot
It's a big muff circuit without the clipping diodes. I read up on it and people are able to get overdrive, fuzz, all kinds of sounds from it. It didn't do that for me. A couple years ago I built a Sour Grape and that's been my go to for the saturated muff style fuzz with a bit more bite. This one was very smooth thru the range of the drive control, unless it's dialed back, but then it didn't have enough edge to push through. I wasn't able to get the cutting bite of an OD pedal from it. Maybe I'll come back to it later on and mix it up with some other drive pedals and find a tone I like. But for now I just want to show there's more than one way of interpreting the name of this circuit.
