Removing cured UV gloss and printing

Part of the process of powdercoating often involves media blasting whatever you're coating first to clean it of dirt and stuff. So if it was me I'd just take it to get re-powdercoated. The places I have used here would be more expensive than a Tayda powdercoat but not crazy. Media blasting would remove everything pretty fast.

Years ago I got into fixing, refinishing, and flipping bicycle frames and got to know some of our local sand blasters and powder coating shops. Kind of amazing how well that process works, even on bike frames with lots of fiddly little braze-ons and tight corners.

I would definitely do something like that if I had a bunch of stuff I was trying to sell. For a one-off personal project it’s just not worth the time and logistics, even if the price isn’t too high. For this particular enclosure, my file mixup resulted in totally misaligned yellow-on-gold print, so literally anything was gonna be an improvement 😂. It also has an odd powdercoat due to a mixup with their powder supplier. The matte finish in my picture is pretty much what the whole thing looked like already, heh. All that to say: this one already had one foot in the scrap bin so no risk in trying something.

I was really surprised how well the little PCB frame worked as a scraper, though, especially considering I picked it out of the trash. The edge is very sharp, but not quite hard enough to gouge the powdercoat, at least for this particular finish. It’s also flexible enough to bend into a slightly convex shape for focusing on one particular section at a time.

Anyway, not a universal solution by any means, but I was pleasantly surprised for this particular situation!
