Emmett Chapman, musician and Inventor of the Chapman Stick, has passed away.
I always admired Emmett, not just for his music or his invention, but for his innovations in touchstyle playing as a whole, and for his unique approach to the marriage of art and engineering in his musical instruments— he not only influenced me as a musician through his own music and the music he made possible (Tony Levin especially), but also as an aspiring engineer, luthier, and general maker of musical stuff when I was in high school. As far back as I can remember, I’ve aspired to own a real Chapman stick as my ultimate goal as a musician. Someday…
RIP to a brilliant individual.
