Another killer Sheepy Love layout from my best Kiwi buddy @szukalski !
I've been looking for a board for a plain Jane vintage Tube screamer. I came across AionFX's "Stratosphere" project which is a Narrow Box Maxon/Ibanez TS808.
This version was only produced for a short time before Maxon/Ibanez changed it to the more familiar single op amp version that we all know and love
On this version, the input/output buffers are handled by the opamps instead of of the more familiar JFET buffers. I don't think a lot of these "narrow box" 808's were made and I don't know why they decided to change it to jfet buffers, except maybe cost?
Anyway, I asked David (@szukalski) to work his magic with this schematic and once again he did a killer job.
I have to say up front that I absolutely LOVE this pedal. It's classic vintage Tube Screamer tone. A bit more mellow than the TS9.
It does great as a standalone overdrive and really does a nice job pushing my Dirty Shirley thats already got some gain.
Also, and this is probably the most impressive thing, it's dead quiet. The noise floor is definitely less than your average TS808.
I've built the LGSM (Little Green Scream Machine) a couple of years ago and that has been my "reference TS808 pedal" to compare with other YATS.
I spent quite a bit of time comparing the two pedals. They are different sounding but hard to say if one is "better" than the other. That's very subjective.
But the Sheepy GS808 has not left my signal chain since I built it. I used legit 1S1588 clippers and 1458 opamps as per the original.
I do have a couple of extra PCBs if anyone wants one. Just DM me.
Make fun of my trash can knobs all you want, I love them hahaha.
