Shrinking a Boss SD-1 SMD pedal

I love my Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal but it's really big and I'm running out of space on my pedalboard - so, yesterday I decided to try to rehouse it into something a bit smaller. Upon taking it apart I found that the enclosure was mostly empty since my pedal is one of the newer SMD models! I decided to see how small I could reasonably get it, and ended up with this:

The enclosure is something I quickly threw together in Onshape and 3d printed - if anyone wants the files lmk, happy to share!

In addition to taking the pedal apart, I had to:
  • replace the footswitch with a more traditional momentary one
  • desolder and relocate the DC jack so I could fold the daughterboard onto the main PCB
  • replace the knobs so the indicators would point the right way
  • add a wire grounding the output jack - the boss pedal usually relies on the metal enclosure for that
Other than those modifications, it's just using the original Boss parts! and now it fits on my pedalboard :)
