Smooth build for the most part. I recommend putting a 15K resistor in series with lug 2 of the treble pot because otherwise it will just oscillate like crazy once you approach max treble, that goes for the Beta Lead version too. All the schematics I found of the original amps also have that resistor so I'm not sure why Aion left it out.
I didn't feel like soldering wires to the LED legs so I used one of those little JST connectors with the wires already attached. Just stuck the LED legs right through and gave them a little loop around. Works great :)
Soundwise, well, it is a Sunn Beta and with the gain wide open it's just beautifully nasty. You can also get some nice clean and lightly overdriven rock tones though with the gain dialed back. Tone controls are active and have a very wide range. Overall a very nice little preamp pedal for bass! I also tried it with guitar but I'm not a fan of that sound. Just build the Beta Lead version if you're a guitar player :) That one works pretty well for bass too.

Demo added. I like this one best for high distortion doomy/sludgy tones, so that's what the video focuses on.
I'm finding this one a little hard to dial in, even though the tone controls have a very wide range. The Beta Lead tone stack is easier to work with for both bass and guitar in my opinion.
