SOLVED Super Muffled Gerkin

Hello folks,

I've recently finished a Gerkin build and it seems to be functioning correctly aside from being suuuuuper woofy. The tone is completely devoid of treble at all, way darker and more woofy than I would have predicted. It sounds like a mountain of blankets is over my amp!

To get close to usable tones I'm having to max the treble and mids on my amp (AC30-style), and also on literally every pedal in my chain both before and after the gerkin. Changing to guitars with different pickups doesn't seem to help either - I've tried with single coils, humbuckers and EMGs without luck.

I've double-checked every joint, and in many cases reflowed the solder to make sure the joint is good, to no result. It feels like either I've done something stupid, or perhaps some component type I've chosen is bad for the position I have it in, or something to that effect.

If you were faced with this symptom, is there a particular place you'd start in debugging it? Or would some component changes possibly result in better treble response?
