Switching Transistors Makes Popping Noise

I assembled a Rangemaster PCB I purchased off eBay (before I discovered PedalPCB!). The BOM suggested a 2N2222 transistor but also said to experiment. So I did!

I hooked up a 2N2222 and a 2N2219 to a 3pdt mini toggle. With the unit on, it produces a popping sound when switching between the two transistor.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this or is this just the nature of the beast?

That's pretty much the nature of it I think. You can do it with only two poles though.
Fwiw, moonn electronics has some rotary switch boards for this if you want to do it in the future. I think they're called "why not more" or just "more"
One or the other.
Also good to socket one and use it to audition transistors quickly, then solder in your selection.
But, I think the 2222 and 2219 are binned versions of the same transistor. (Same topology , just different gains) Probably not going to get much tone variance there. Swapping the 2219 for something like a 2n1308(or other npn germanium) could provide a more apparent difference.
