Transistor boost circuit design help

Hello so I was breadboarding a simple transistor boost stage for fuzz (sounds good).
I was coming from Electra circuit, but I tweaked the values a lot, mostly by ear and I settled for this.
I also added a divider at the end, because it was too much, it should act as a set on pot that passes 2/3 of the signal, if I am correct?
The 4.7K at the begining removed noise when I lowered the volume po on guitar, I read this up on some fuzz face discussions.

I have only a basic knowledge of electronics, could someone explain this to me please why it works and if it has any design flaws?
It sounds good, slightly overdriven.

Why what works? The circuit as a whole or some specific part of it?

I added it as a stage before fuzz face - Tonebender style, but it works really good stand alone too.
The only thing that bugs me is that 100k is really low value, it is usually 1m or higher
