I’ve been reading about the transistors used in an 808. I’ve build a Dwarven Hammer (Prevision Drive) using 2n3904s.
Some mention on other forums that a 2n5088/2n5089 combo or 2n5088 (Aion used these) or 2n5089 pairs are preferred, 2n5089 having the lowest noise. BC550 can also be a good one. @Chuck D. Bones also used a 2n5089 as an emitter follower at the end of the Viceroy. Read somewhere that the 2n5089 provide more umpf.
Another user mentioned he didn’t “like” 2n3904, without a clear indication as to what he disliked. I will experiment with them to see if I can hear a difference.
